Apiary Visits

These meetings are principally for members of Dorchester and Weymouth Bee Keepers Association. Members will be emailed with directions before each meeting. If you would like to see what we do at these meetings and whether you wish to be a member then email Sally before the meeting.

Sunday 24 June:
Nick Knight’s Apiary at the bottom of White Horse Hill, near Sutton Poyntz. Nick has a top bar hive as well as Nationals and may have some mating nucs on the go. We haven’t been to Nick’s site before but it looks a lovely location and I am sure we will have some interesting hives to look at.

Sunday 8th July:
Do & Andy Ranson & Ben Benjamin’s Apiary at Furzebrook Farm, Lynch Lane, Weymouth. This is a lovely site near Littlesea Holiday Park. Lots of colonies here – hives include Nationals, WBC & a Top Bar Hive.

Sunday 29th July:
Nicky Payne’s Apiary at Osmington on a site owned by Heritage Seeds http://www.heritageseeds.co.uk These seeds are either grown on the adjoining fields or “harvested” from various sites including the banks of the cutting through Ridgeway and flowers meadows, around Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge and as far north as Gloucester. Gerard, the owner will be giving us a guided tour of the harvesting machines (including mini combine) and cleaning equipment as he did last year. There are approx 4 hives here at the moment but probably more by July.

Sunday 12 August:
Tony Harris’ Apiary at Pinewood Lodge, with a Cream Tea afterwards at the Pine Lodge Tea Rooms. Plenty of hives to look at in a very scenic setting.

Sunday 19th August:
Extraction Afternoon at Andy Stillman & Lindsay Burstall’s apiary at Stinsford. This is especially helpful for those members who have not done any extracting yet. Come and see how it’s done.

All the meetings start at 2.00pm. I will email reminders and directions out before each meeting.
