- Pagden Method - Artificial Swarm
- Simple instructions
- Move the original hive one side
- Set up an empty hive in original location
- Place queen and brood in new hive.
- Supers back on new hive.
- Put crown boards and lids onto hives.
- Advantages
- You end up with two colonies
- Should discourage another swarm.
- Disadvantages
- It requires a spare hive.
- It requires space for the new hive.
- One colony will be set back about a month.

- Snelgrove Method - Artificial Swarm
- Simple instructions
- Put the queen in a new brood box
- Put the new brood box in place of the old brood box
- Put the Snelgrove Board above the supers.
- Put the old brood box above the Snelrove Board.
- Open Snelgrove doors to let bees in and out.
- By moving doors persuade bees to form a new colony
- Advantages
- Does not require a complete new hive.
- Does not require extra space in apiary.
- You have persuaded the bees they swarmed - but you have lost none.
- Disadvantages
- Does require you to find he queen.
- You need to a Snelgrove Board.
- It is more complicated than the Pagden method.
